June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month

At Century Home Care Partners, a small, family-run home care agency proudly serving Bryan and College Station and the surrounding Brazos Valley, we understand how deeply Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia impact families. That’s why this June, during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, we’re joining the movement to educate, advocate, and support those affected by brain-related diseases.

Why This Month Matters

Alzheimer’s disease is more than just memory loss. It slowly affects thinking, reasoning, behavior, and independence. And unfortunately, it’s becoming more and more common.

Here are a few eye-opening facts from the Alzheimer’s Association:

·         Over 6.9 million Americans aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s in 2024.

·         1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

·         Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in Texas.

·         More than 11 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias — most of them are family members.

These numbers don’t just represent statistics—they represent real people. Real families. And for many in the Brazos Valley, these challenges are happening right here at home.

What You Can Do

1.  Start the Conversation: early diagnosis can improve quality of life and access to resources. If you notice signs in a loved one such as memory lapses, confusion, or changes in behavior, talk to a doctor.

2.  Wear Purple: purple is the official color of the Alzheimer’s movement. Wearing it this month shows your support and raises awareness in your community.3.Reach Out for Help: caring for someone with dementia can be overwhelming. As a local agency, we provide compassionate in-home care that helps families manage the day-to-day challenges of dementia with dignity and respect.
